Fertility Acupuncture

Newborn Baby

Acupuncture is increasingly popular for the treatment of infertility and other reproductive health concerns.

Acupuncture treats the whole person, not just whatever symptoms are manifest. It helps regulate the endocrine system, thus affecting hormone levels, ovulation, and menstrual cycles. It has also been shown to increase male fertility, resulting in increased sperm count and motility.

The scientific community has shown increased interest in the ability of acupuncture to treat infertility.

BENEFITS INCLUDE:

Sympathetic nervous system normalization–resulting in increased blood flow to the uterus and increased uterine wall thickness, which enhances implantation

Reduction of stress hormones–acupuncture releases beta-endorphins and has a calming effect on the nervous system

Improved reproductive hormone levels

Normalization of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarain axis–a key process to fertility

PRENATAL/POSTNATAL ACUPUNCTURE:

Once pregnant, focus turns to keeping the mom and baby healthy throughout the pregnancy.

COMMON PREGNANCY CONDITIONS THAT ARE TREATED WITH ACUPUNCTURE INCLUDE:

Nausea and vomiting
Musculoskeletal pain, back pain, hip/pubic bone pain
Headaches
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Constipation/hemorrhoids
Breech and posterior position babies
Hypertension
Labor preparation and induction

POSTNATAL CARE

Acupuncture has techniques to promote recovery after childbirth. Conditions helped include: insufficient lactation, blocked ducts, wound healing, pain and trauma associated with childbirth, postnatal anxiety and depression, and urinary problems.

We can also address any issues that have lingered postnatally, like carpal tunnel syndrome, back pain, and plantar fasciitis.
